On June 7th, 2023, the Living Group Leaders (LGLs) from three of Sophia University dormitories: Soshigaya International House, Arrupe International Residence, and Edagawa Men’s Dormitory hosted an engaging event titled ‘Understanding Sustainable Development Goals through Board Game’. In collaboration with the Future Technology Association for Promotion, this event aimed to engage and educate all dormitory residents about SDGs in an enjoyable and interactive way.

The primary objectives of this event were threefold: firstly, to provide residents of Sophia University Dormitories with a unique and enjoyable opportunity to enhance their understanding of Sustainable Development Goals; secondly, to foster discussions among residents about various sustainability challenges; and finally, to ignite a passion for SDGs-related student initiatives.

The Sustainable World Board Game event saw participation from 28 students representing all 3 dormitories and more than 8 different faculties. The event was structured into four parts: it began with an introduction to the history of Sustainable Development Goals, followed by a explanation of how to play the Sustainable World Board Game. Participants then engaged in gameplay, delving into various aspects of sustainability challenges in Japan, including issues ranging from poverty, aging population, labor shortage, renewable energy, to environmental education. The event concluded with a group reflection session, where participants shared their insights gained from the board game experience.

Here are some of the comments shared by participants following their experience with the Sustainable World Board Game:
